Who discovered the oldest footprints dating back 117 000 years

The woolly mammoth was roughly the same size as modern African elephants.Males reached shoulder heights between 2.7 and 3.4 m (8.9 and 11.2 ft) and weighed up to 6 tonnes (6.6 short tons). This book recounts this discovery and presents a series of photographs of the cave paintings. The images are particulary impressive in terms of the techniques used to present perspective and motion: many figures interact with each other; some are staggered; others are drawn on bulges in the cave wall to further suggest depth.Females reached 2.6–2.9 m (8.5–9.5 ft) in shoulder heights and weighed up to 4 tonnes (4.4 short tons).A newborn calf weighed about 90 kilograms (200 lb).During this period the West Coast was covered in luscious savanna land and hosted the BIG EIGHT.

Mammoth remains had long been known in Asia before they became known to Europeans in the 17th century.

The origin of these remains was long a matter of debate, and often explained as being remains of legendary creatures.

The mammoth was identified as an extinct species of elephant by Georges Cuvier in 1796.

The South African National Parks Board will therefore announce this week that it intends to preserve them in situ.

Board member Johann Verhoef says that the prints will be covered with a thin layer of an opaque, removable material to protect them from the sea—so visitors to the site will only see a cast of the prints.
